GEORGE NORAIAN

George Noraian was born on August 15, 1921 in Pontiac, Michigan to Andon and Vartanoosh Noraian, in a home utilized by newly arrived Armenian immigrants. One year and two days later, another Armenian family would arrive at that same home and a baby girl was born. He was raised in Melvindale, Michigan with his twin brother John and younger brother William. George graduated from Melvindale High School and attended The Ford Motor Company Apprentice School. He joined the Army Air Force in World War Two, where he served as an aircraft radio operator with overseas assignment in Japan. He received The American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war, he attended Wayne State University. In 1948 he married the love of his life and the baby girl born in that same house in Pontiac, his sweet heart, Agnes Dakesian . They were blessed with three children, Vicki Ann , Gary and Nora. Together they created a loving home, which welcomed friends and family. George loved spending time with his family. He was the epitome of a true family man. He instilled good values, a solid work ethic and the importance of education to his children. George enjoyed reading. He fixed everything around the house and maintained the family home in Redford Township until he was 90. George worked for General Motors Fisher Body for 43 years. At Fisher Body Plant 21, he served as a tool maker and supervisor. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia, and a made a special trip to Armenia with fellow Armenians. He enjoyed spending time with other Armenians playing golf, bowling and, for as long as he was able, he looked forward to attending Tuesday Lunch Club. He traveled the U.S. with his adult children, creating treasured family vacations; it was always more about the journey than the destination. He was a proud Armenian and strong supporter of Armenian organizations and charities. He had been a member of the Armenian American Veterans, a long time member of St. John Armenian Church and a supporter of AGBU, where he established three endowments. He also supported and believed in the good work being done by Fuller Center for Housing Armenia, and Focus Armenia. His dear wife, Agnes, passed away at the young age of 55, leaving him a widower for the remainder of his 95 years. George was devoted to her memory for the last 40 years and today will once again rest at her side. George celebrated his 95th birthday here at St. John's last summer. He will be truly missed by his friends and family, who were blessed to have him in their lives. .....................FAMILY MEMBERS: Beloved husband of the late Agnes (nee Dakesian).
