KORA JAMIAN Obituary

Kora Jamian of Bloomfield Hills was born April 24, 1926 at Women's Hospital. She was one of three daughters to Diane and John Solakian She grew up in Detroit and graduated from Highland Park High. Her father John had many real estate holdings, including hotels in town. During the Great Depression her father lost their house but was able to hold on to one of his properties, the "Manhattan Hotel", that he still owned. Her whole family moved into their hotel located on the Detroit River (former Ford Auditorium site) and occupied the entire top floor as living quarters. Kora's younger sister Roxanne was born there in 1930. After the Depression, and things improved, they moved to a home in the Palmer Park neighborhood. As fate would have it, she met Edward Jamian who was returning back from the US Air Force and married him in September, 1947. Together they created a wonderful family with three children, Christina, Gregory and John. They built a brand new home in Detroit, Michigan, truly living the American Dream. She worked many part time jobs as a Kelly Girl and later worked at Sun Medical Equipment Company as an Executive Secretary. Edward and Kora loved to travel to various destinations all over the world. Home was now Bloomfield Hills when they both decided to retire. They built their winter dream home in Scottsdale Arizona where they spent fifteen wonderful years, traveling back and forth, making new friends and hosting family and old friends. Kora and Edward were instrumental in the development phase of the building of St Apkar, Armenian Apostolic Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Kora was very involved in charitable activities including the St John's Armenian Church Women's Guild, as a life member and, the Daughters of Vartan. In her early years, Kora also served as a Sunday School teacher at the church school. She always said how blessed she was with three children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She loved her sisters Nora Demirjian (deceased) and Roxanne Keurajian and sister in-law Elizabeth Derderian (deceased), along with her entire family and so many friends. Kora also loved her caregivers that attended to her when she needed them and they all became her friends and close companions, thus allowing her to remain in her home.
