QUEENIE SARKISIAN Obituary

Queenie Sarkisian passed away in Bloomfield, Michigan, on December 10, 2016. Born in Detroit on December 28, 1927, her parents were Sarkis and Mary (Asdourian) Sarkisian. Growing up in Detroit, Queenie enjoyed basketball and girls' hockey. She had a great family life and loved her family picnics. Queenie liked to watch television with her mother and explained things to her since she was from old country. She took mother to her sorority events and to other community places, as well. Queenie received her education and graduated from Eastern High School. Embarking on a life-long career, she began working as a teletype operator at Uniroyal and retired after 31 years of faithful service. Queenie loved to knit and do other crafts. She was very talented in this area. She was well known for her annual Christmas cards, which she created herself by tying in places she had visited. She loved to travel; she traveled the world over. She attended the opera and enjoyed going to the theater in Stratford, Ontario. In her later years, she became a big fan of the Detroit Tigers and Pistons. Also, Queenie was very well known for her Charlie Chaplin routines. What a great Chaplin she was! She felt very close to church and the Armenian culture and was proud of Armenian history. Queenie was a long time active member of the following clubs, charities and associations/groups: St. John Armenian Church Womens Guild, Project Hope, American Lung Assoc., Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Club (honored with Matilda Wilson award), Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Opera House, PBS Telethons. Queenie was a self-proclaimed pack rat and saved everything. The Oakland Press called her 'The Queen of Everything' volunteer. It should be noted that she was a reluctant buyer of personal items for herself, but was always willing to help others, as evidenced by all the charity work she did. She really treasured her family and friends. Everyone knew Queenie because she was well known for her philanthropy and gave so much of herself...................... Kindly leave a loving tribute here. ..............QUEENIE SARKISIAN Age 88. Devoted daughter of the late Sarkis and Mary Sarkisian. Beloved sister of Garbis (Alice) Sarkisian. Dearest aunt of Daniel (Susan) Sarkisian, George (Koni) Sarkisian. Dear sister-in-law of Harry (Pat) Alatchanian. Queenie also had a good friend, the late Paul Margosian.
