ROSE ASSARIAN Obituary

Rose Assarian passed away May 15, 2016. She was a long time resident of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Born in Melvindale on September 29, 1926, she was one of four daughters born to Thomas and Anna (Tarpinian) Chrovian. She received early training in business by helping in her father's well-known Tom's Hardware Store in Melvindale. She graduated from Melvindale High School and continued working in the store. At an Armenian dance prior to WWII, she was introduced to Michael (Moe) M. Assarian, by his uncle Margos Kasparian . Love blossomed, but, Moe being in military service, they had to wait until the war ended to get married in 1946. Rose became a dutiful Armenian homemaker. The happy couple moved to Detroit, where she raised her three children and treated them to her excellent cooking and baking. Keeping close ties, they regularly visited family and friends back in Melvindale. In later years, with the birth of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rose showered them with love at holiday dinner gatherings. They moved to Lathrup Village in 1958. She was quick to make long lasting friendships in the neighborhood. A hard working woman, Rose became the bookkeeper in her husband's unique health organization, "Check Up Lab". She even worked part-time as a cashier at J.L. Hudson Department Store. In addition, she supported and encouraged her husband in his philanthropic endeavors, helping him to succeed in erecting the Gomidas statue in a singularly central location, at the foot of Woodward Avenue, near the waterfront, in downtown Detroit. in later years she and Moe travelled the world together with memorable visits to Spain, Turkey, the Caribbean and especially Armenia. Rose's enjoyments were many. She enjoyed family holidays. In sports, she loved attending Red Wings games. Fleeing the ice and snow of cold winters, after Moe's passing she became a snowbird in Florida. Where she became close friends with those in her walking group and Armenians from the East Coast. Going to the Flea Market became a new thrill for her. Rose would marvel at the magical sunrise and sunset over the ocean. She shall also be remembered for continuing the family's involvement in philanthropy, helping others with her generosity by opening the Assarian Cancer Center, at Providence Hospital in Novi , contributing to medical research at the University of Michigan , supporting orphans in Armenia and supporting oncology services at Beaumont Hospital. Most recently she also helped untold numbers of children in Armenia with her contribution to the Paros Foundation. Rose Assarian leaves a cherished legacy of love and world-wide philanthropy. ****************************************** Her family members are, her Late Husband: Michael M.
